This class includes classic Hatha Yoga sitting, standing, and lying poses, with simple flow sequences to link the poses.
Restore & Rest
Join us for a series of restorative yoga poses that allow you to release tension and stress, followed by a 20-minute extended rest with sound meditation. This class is intended to release you into the parasympathetic state to promote deep rest, relaxation, and expanded awareness.
This active yoga class focuses on rhythmic flowing movement for good circulation and moving energy in the body (and mind). Classes will mix traditional Vinyasa flows and Yang sequences based on the yoga of Paul and Suzee Grilley. From Paul: “Yang tissues should be exercised in a Yang way and Yin tissues should be exercised in a Yin way. Muscles are Yang, bones and connective tissue are Yin. Yang muscles should be exercised with rhythm and repetition. Connective tissue or bone should be exercised with long periods of stasis or stillness.” After we warm up, we will move together through standing poses and moving up and down on the mat, and finish with rest (savasana). Intended benefits of the class include stress release, strength building, and mental clarity.
Yoga for Strength (60 years+ class)
Yoga for Strength is specifically for seniors who wish to maintain their strength and flexibility into the Golden Years. Combining limbering Daoist flows, the joint-releasing sequences, and Yoga for Osteoporosis program of Dr. Loren Fishman, this class will combine chair- and mat-based poses held for up to 30 seconds. This is an active class with lots of prop use and chair alternatives. If you are working with chronic illness, please consult with your doctor before deciding to take this class.
